The Teide Cable Car history began with the vision of Andrés de Arroyo y González de Chávez. After a trip to Germany and Switzerland in 1929, he was inspired by the extensive use of cable cars and the stunning views they provided.
He was determined to bring this experience to Tenerife and he began his mission to construct a cable car on Mount Teide. The initial project for the Teide Cable Car was drafted by engineer José Ochoa Bejumea in 1930. This system was designed in two sections- the first connected Montaña Majúa to Montaña Fría using two cabins each carrying 35 passengers in opposite directions.
The second section featured a single cabin with a capacity for 15-person. In 1960, the project was revised by engineers Miguel Pintor Domingo and Francisco Trujillo Armas. They relocated the starting station and shortened the cable length, based on Ochoa's original design.

The route of the Teide Cable Car was strategically chosen to utilise the natural slope of the terrain, facilitating the installation of the towers. The lower station was aligned with the intermediate station, which was positioned on solid rock, ensuring stability and safety.
